Becky Long-Smith enjoys creating work from a variety of processes including different forms of print making.
‘I try to capture a sense of wonder when I make work, like the feeling you get when you see something utterly beautiful or strange created by nature. Sometimes this involves depictions of nature itself, other times it is a representation of our relationship with it. I work in different styles depending on the medium and process that I am using and what I want to say with it.’
Becky studied Graphic Arts at Liverpool John Moore’s University and an MA in Creative Practice at Leeds Arts University. She worked as an illustrator for many years and her prints always incorporate narratives of some kind, even if it is just suggested in the title.
‘My practice is eclectic and I think this is why I enjoy using a range of print mediums. I have recently started embroidering into my prints. Combining two slow craft processes increases the time spent on each work and through this a different kind of relationship evolves.’
