Charlotte finds freedom of expression through printmaking. She enjoys the sensory process of creating collagraphs as it feels sculptural and magical in making art out of materials like glue, and sand and letting the materials and colour application create an imprint when pressed, to firmly create a statement of expression about nature, light and colour.
Charlotte draws into the glue and these are the intaglio areas which include delicate wild flowers, leaves, rocks and other elements. Her palette is strong and combines with areas of light . Her monotypes also create that enjoyment of mark making and movement, applying colour with a rubber block to create light, sky , earth and water. These are painted onto a zinc plate and then pressed using an etching press.
Each monotype and collagraph is a varied edition, so is not reproduced to be the same, which is what Charlotte likes about printmaking, as colours can be used in different ways to tell a story
Charlotte enjoys trips out in North Yorkshire and to the East Coast. She studied her fine Art and Music degree in York and creates her printmaking in her studio in a village near York. She is also an illustrator and painter and is originally from West Berkshire.
Charlotte sells her art from her studio at home, at York Open Studios and through Pyramid Gallery, York Printmaker exhibitions and West Yorkshire Print Workshop in Mirfield.
