Jane works in her studio and in York and focusses mainly on Linocuts although she does like to try out lots of printmaking techniques and also makes collages from pieces of her prints. York and the Yorkshire countryside are sources of inspiration for her work as is her allotment and the wildlife that she sees there.
She has been printmaking for about twenty years and taught herself to relief-print using just a few tools, lino, paper and ink. She was able to achieve satisfactory results just by working at the kitchen table. Then she completed a degree in Fine Art at Leeds College of Art. It was here that she was introduced to printmaking using all of the facilities that a print studio had to offer. Following this, she attended a Linocut workshop where she was introduced to the locally produced Hawthorn etching presses. She took the plunge, invested in a press and this was the real start of her printmaking journey.
Jane joined the York Printmakers group as she believes that it is very important to be able to discuss ideas and share techniques. She has exhibited her work at the York Open Studios over many years and has work in local galleries. Her work is also available to view and buy online.
