Janice has been interested in arts and crafts for as long as she can remember but NOCN Printmaking courses at York College over a decade ago helped her to discover the joys of printmaking. Since then she has continued to develop her skills and knowledge through workshops and courses at studios such as Handprint Studio, West Yorkshire Print Workshop and the Ropewalk at Barton on Humber.
She enjoys the practical and unpredictable nature of printmaking and the huge variety of techniques available. She tends to favour etching processes but is always keen to expand her knowledge of printmaking techniques and has recently been exploring etched lino, monoprinting from nature, collage and artist’s books. She takes inspiration from the local Yorkshire landscape, flowers and plants, and often works from her own photographic images and sketchbooks, although occasionally she produces more abstract images. Many of her prints also have a vintage feel, using colour to create a faded effect.
