Traces of the past revealed in objects and landscape are intrinsic to Sandra Storey’s artwork. The mythological presence of moors and sea pervades her images which draw on a childhood in and lifelong attachment to the natural world surrounding Whitby: its villages, walks and moorland.
The permanence of these memories and objects sit in relationship to the actual fragility of the natural world. Printmaking offers rich possibilities for exploring the ways that images are engraved or imprinted on our conscious and unconscious minds.
Sandra left the Whitby area in the 1970s to study art and after graduating with a degree in Fine Art she went on to train as an Art Psychotherapist. She has been in clinical practice over a period of more than thirty years. In 2016 she completed an M.A in Creative Practice, graduating with a Distinction and The Dean’s Prize (Art and Design) from Harrogate College.
She has recently been shortlisted for SCAF Emerging Artist Award, 2020
