Vanessa’s work combines abstract linear elements in energetic compositions. There is a sense of movement. Although the marks are abstract, they have an organic feel and are based on shapes found in nature or the human figure. Each element is considered its own entity and meets others on the screen-print bed where they are placed together in instinctive arrangements. She enjoys how screen-printing allows her to combine the directness of mark making with a detached approach to composition. Elements meet in different ways, creating different relationships and tensions depending on that particular moment in time.
She began screen-printing 4 years ago, but has been drawing and painting regularly for many years.
She has displayed work in: Northern Print Studio in Newcastle; Spitalfields Market, London; Print North, Leeds; Crafty Crawl, York.
